Hillegonda C Rietveld, London South Bank University

Hillegonda C. Rietveld is Reader in Sonic Cultures at London South Bank University, where she set up the BA course Music and Sonic Media, which has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. She is also Editor for IASPM@Journal, the journal of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM). Since the early 1980s, she has been engaged with electronic dance music not only as founding member of Quando Quango (Factory Records), but also as dance DJ and through close engagement with the development of Manchester's legendary nightclub the Haçienda (FAC51). She has published extensively in the field of electronic dance music culture and, with Bernardo A Attias and Anna Gavanas, she co-edited the international collection DJ Culture in the Mix: Power, Technology, and Social Change in Electronic Dance Music (Bloomsbury Academic, 2013).
